Param Dham – The Highest Abode
The holy Narwood Cottage perching on a hillock where Swami Satyanand Ji undertook severe penances while living on marginal and frugal food in 1925 is still extant. Sanctified by Swamiji and his Enlightenment, this place has special significance for the devotees. It is now known as Param Dham (The Highest Abode) Shee Ram Sharnam Ashram.
The Ashram is situated in Upper Bakrota, Dalhousie in Himachal, at a height of more than 8000 feet above sea-level. It is reachable by road up to the foot-hill and then one has to trek or walk up to Ashram nearly 300 metres of ramp and steps. Param Dham hillock is engirdled by road, deep valleys and the mountain-range wrapped in sylvan surroundings. There is a paradisical purity and peace. Its beauty beggars all description. The holy Ashram still resonates with the chirping of the invisible and mysterious Bird which sounds like speaking Ram ! Ram !!
It was here on this historic hillock that Swami Ji reached spiritual consummation on Vyas Purnima Day on July 7,1925. It was here again that Swami Ji got the Maha-Mantra of “Ram”. It was here that the Divine Vision and Voice ordained: “Ram Bhaj, Ram Bhaj” (Sing Ram, Repeat Ram). It was here that the facsimile of Adhisthan was envisioned by Swami Ji.
